Jackpot at Goodwill

I go through waves of liking thrift stores.  Sometimes its like a treasure hunt I can’t get enough of, and sometimes its just a store full of crap that smells like moldy basement.  I’m going through the moldy basement faze right now, much to my thrift store obsessed husband’s dismay.  Until……the Jackpot.  I’d never hear the end of it if I didn’t make it clear that my husband found it, while I was probably at Target stuffing a popcorn combo in my face.

A perfect condition (probably never used) Bernina 910 with the manual and carrying case……………….for $25 bucks.

And it works. The only thing I can find wrong is that it isn’t very fast.  And it didn’t come with the attachable tray table, the one in the picture is mine.   So big thank you to whoever took this baby to the Goodwill, it will be well loved wherever it ends up.  And to Goodwill…. that disinfecting spray you put in the shoes is nasty.  It makes me gag.

Score! my Goodwill only has the vintage style sewing machine and tables....and I can't justify buying another. Seriously, what Goodwill do you go to? You are a lucky girl.

Wow...I am a Goodwill girl too. Can you believe that someone would give it up? My kids always ask, if there is a fire in the house what would you grab as you were running out. The answer is always my sewing machine!!

What a great find! I went to my thrift store last week and found a game I had been looking for that I had played as a child.

Wow! I have thrift score envy, bad...

Wow, that machine is similar to my first sewing machine (I still have it), and it might be slow because the motor is small. Definitely take it to a local dealer and have it tuned up to be sure, but what a great find. I am jealous! I have four Berninas (well, one is my mom's and she says I can have it some day-it is almost 40 years old and is still the best machine ever) and the only reason I upgraded was the small motor.

WOW!!! You hit the jackpot that's for sure☺

Holy cow! I would have just about fallen backward if I saw that machine at Goodwill. Congrats on that find!

Oh I just LOVE to Score at the thrift stores!! I just got a never-been-used Vera Bradley backpack for $1.40!!!!!!....and it still smelled new...not like an old shoe.

Camille said...

Congratulations! I am a Bernina-ite too, and I love it! Hooray for goodwill, aside from the shoe smell of course. Totally with you on that one.

For your great find and low price a complete clean oil and adjust might be in order. Could be an adjustment needs doing and it would run better. I bought an old Necchi at a rummage sale for $12.50 and I sewed doll clothing on it for years. It made me over $7000 in one year alone. Great Find. Chris

WOWWWWWWWWW considering I own a bernina and it's an older model I cannot believe this! I'm gonna go to goodwill after work now!

As soon as I read the title of your post and saw the picture I said- out loud- you've got to be freaking kidding me!! Wow, what a find. I love my Bernina. I would keep it and sew on it if you don't have one already. They supposedly last forever, which is why I bought mine.

wow, what a freakin bargain! I can't believe you found that!!

Wow. I see sewing machines at my thrift stores, but never in such nice condition, and they are ALWAYS missing the manual or the foot pedal or something.

Last week I found a $110 Kenmore humidifier for $3.98. I was so excited because I was saving to buy this exact humidifer new, and now I have $65 to put towards something else! I was sweating as I stood in line because I was sure the lady at the register would tell me it was some kind of mistake.

OMG, that's awesome. I had to giggle at your hot/cold feelings of thrift stores. I thought for sure I was the only one felt like that! hehe

mjb said...

Oh wow for sure! I need to make sure my husband is trained on what to look for :) - and he'd probably be tinkering with that motor to make sure it was going as fast as it could.

I found a like new Bernina serger at the thrift last year for $20, but since I have yet to figure it out your 910 has got me beat! That is the best thrift score ever! xo, suzy

Wow! I share your love/hate opinion of thrift stores, but what a find! Good for you! Almost makes me want to drive right down to my Goodwill.

Libby said...

Congrats!!! I'm still looking for a good, old machine so I can sew on heavier fabrics and threads without popping needles or tearing up my bobbin. *sigh*
