Do you ever feel like a big blob all day and then at 9:30 PM you finally get the urge to get something done? Yeah, me too. And usually its not something small, its more like “lets re-organize the pantry,” or “lets re-arrange the furniture” { husband loves that one }. Or in my case last night it was “I’m going to make a quilt”. So…this is what I did last night.
Then of course by the time I was fully pooped & ready to crawl into bed I remembered my laundered sheets were still in a big fat pile on my bed…waiting to be put “on” my bed. Drats.
Most of the fabrics in this quilt are vintage reproductions. I have no idea what any of them are called or who the designers are or who makes them, which is strangely… very refreshing. The blocks are 8", to make one block you need 6 – 3" squares { four white, two colored } and the center piece is an 3" x 8" strip. Sew them together like you would a 9 patch block and your done!
ps. I put more Valentines in the shop too.

I *hate* the totally forgotten unmade bed part the most. I can deal with losing myself till 3am on a project ... but when that bare mattress faces me it's just wrong! There've been a few nights where I would've been willing to just sleep on the mattress with the comforter on top of me, but I knew that wouldn't fly with the hubby. Love the quilt - cute & simple!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one with urges to redecorate the house at inopportune hours. The quilt is lovely.

I adore those fabrics and love the new quilt. I find i get more done after the kids go to bed so I understand you completely!
Been there. Done that. Many times.
Very clever pattern...thanks for sharing.
Um, did you know I just rearranged my pantry?!? It was called, "I don't want to do my work work, so what else can I do?" lol So I cleaned out the bathroom closet & the pantry.
BTW, the Valentine Cards are just too cute!
This quilt is very lovely and the colors are perfect. I am going to have to bookmark this post. So did the hubbie help make the bed???
I think you are in good company with the off hours bursts of energy! Love the repro fabrics, there is just something sweet about them that I love!
My husband says I go to "workshop mode" in the evening. Love the quilt. Such a quick/fun block idea.
yeah...been there...done that. my question is..did you make the bed or just smooth out a sheet and crawl in and pull the blankets over you?
Impressive! Sometimes I will start a project in the PM, but I usually get too exhausted or my enthusiasm wanes before I can finish it in one night. It looks great!
very nice!
i always have that with the sheets too - i get the washing in, throw the sheets on the bed, think 'i'll get back to that soon' and then forget :(
your second wind seems very rewarding though

Oooooo....I really like it. And, I understand the sudden burst of energy at non traditional times. I do it fairly often. Not last night, though. I was, for some reason, dragging tired and went to bed comparatively early. Maybe that is why I was up before 6am.
I am so glad you posted about this. Now we all know that we are not alone. I usually go to bed early (I am more of a morning person), but it is only for late quilting ideas that I would stay up late forgetting the time. And the bed? It often happens that sheets are still in the washer and need to make it to dryer. We have slept in our sleeping bags ones.
:)))
I get those urges. Then you look up and it is 2:00 a.m. and you have to go to school in 5 hours and teach a classroom of first graders.
Been there . . . done that.
I love your 1930's repro's! I'm loving those lately! Stop by my blog in a few days and you can see my red, green, & peach 1930's reproduction maverick star quilt. It's pieced, just needs quilted!

I LOVE this quilt! I have been looking for cross patterns and a way to use up scraps from other quilts. What a great idea!
Wow, I'm impressed that you got that done in one night.
I am more of a morning person, waking at 3:30am with my brain on over-drive. Then getting my best work done in the next 3 hours.
Oh it feels so good to hear that others struggle with the same 24h/day is not enough issue. But wow one quilt in an evening, `ll have to make a lot of progress to achieve this..;)
this is so cute..i love it, and i know that feeling well. no creativity all day but then it strikes at the oddest times.
I do that to my husband all the time too.
And then also forget to make the bed.
He loves that. heh
I do that ALL.THE.TIME! And it sucks even more when you are pregnant! Good luck and keep the creative juices flowing. Answer the call - no matter what the time! I love the Spring-like colors. hehe Jenn
Really enjoy your blog and the great ideas. I also have a son name Ben and he really enjoys his cape.

I do that all the time! I laughed when I read being a blob part because that is how I have felt lately, like a blob! I think it is this darn winter weather!
Cute quilt by the way! And your valentine cards are cute too!
Just found your blog and am SO glad I did! Absolutely fantastic site you have and loaded with ideas and beautiful pictures! I've just recently started quilting (patchwork designs...I know easy peasy), but I desperately want to venture out into the "Big Girl" world of quilting! I think I've found my inspiration!!!!Thanks for having this gem of a blog!!
Beautiful quilt!!
No matter when I wash the sheets in the day that always happens to me!
In truth, that looks like a fantastic way to spend a late evening.
