I LOVE batiks - not the designs necessarily, but OOH the colors!!!! To me batiks have more personality than many of the prints I see everywhere. But then again I just love fabric - all of it (except maybe holiday prints).
I with you. Not really a fan of the batiks. They tend to remind me too much of tie-die. But that print is very Un-batikish! Also, very pretty!
It's a sign of true style to take something you don't usually like and make it work for you!

Never say never. I said that about novelty fabrics too and there are a few Heather Ross' in my stash.
I've been avoiding buying batiks but I know it's going to happen sooner or later... I work at a quilt shop that stocks many, many bolts. No use fighting the inevitable! hehe
I'm liking batiks more and more...they can be gorgeous!
our only fabric store in town is like "batik-world" so i generally don't go there. is that why i started my own???

I love batiks! A single yardage of batik can yield many varieties of value and color if the batik is large and varied. Also, the subtle variances in color and value can give interest to a quilt the way no other type of fabric can. My neighbor, an art quilter, uses them a lot in making her creations!
Ahhh, batiks are the best and make up the majority of my stash! *swoon*
It seems as though you either love or hate batiks. I too am leary of them... but this one you found is so pretty!

I feel the same way about them ... until ... a friend asked me to sew up some bags for her and she included a yellow/gold batik ... I had to say, even tho I didn't want to, that I wanted what was left over. I asked and she gave it to me! surprised the heck out of me that I liked it! I'm making a bag out of it with the Far, Far Away II ... it's perfect! I'm not going to pass by the batiks with the same distaste as I always do again!
Never say never! I came around to batiks when I was given them in a BOM. They are wonderful to use because they don't stretch as much as other cottons and I find it much easier to get blocks together perfectly. And they come in wonderful colours and textures! Have fun!

I've become a batik-aholic! I don't like them all. They are wonderful for manly qults. I could play with the Hoffman 1895s all day - what colors!

I'm not really sure that would be considered a batik...BUT you did buy something that is out of the norm for you which is great!!! getting out of our comfort zones of styles and fabrics is really surprising as to what our creativity molds into. I love batiks! I have a wallhanging in my office that's all batiks. It's so cheery! :)
Nothing wrong with batiks, they're made by talented craftspeople using ancient art techniques, by hand and with hand-carved wooden stamps. That's a lot of good karma! Plus they are very fade-resistant fabrics so quilts made from them shine for years.

I thought the same thing, but now I've bought some from Stitch in Dye and am going to try to dye my own fabric. Never say never I suppose!
