You know all those other 100 quilts I called my "favorite"? Yeah well…I lied. This one is my current favorite. The quilt is based on a traditional quilt block that uses templates…but this one doesn't use any templates, is easy enough for a beginner, sews together quickly, and can use charm packs.
I started making it with two City Weekend charm packs but I got sick of waiting for yardage (it comes out later this month) so I made this aqua, grey and red version instead. It’s going to be fabulous in City Weekend…and wouldn’t it be great in Bliss? I might have to make that one too.
For now it’s sitting at the end of my lackluster bed…hopefully this week I’ll get my headboard made and have some pictures to share. I usually don’t add borders to quilts, because 1. I hate sewing on borders, and 2. I really hate sewing on borders. This one however needed it, and I like the way the inner border ties it all together.
The finished size is: 60” x 68” with the borders, and 47” x 55” without borders.
How great is that binding? The fabric is a discontinued Moda fabric..it was from the sock monkey line awhile back. I had lots of questions about the zig zag stitches when I was binding…I’ll post about it soon.
The Swirly Pop Pattern is available in a Hard Copy version or a PDF version in my pattern shop.

so, what (line of) fabric DID you use? ...the border fabric is sooooo beautiful~~ nice job!!
So... forgive my ignorance, but, what is a City Weekend charm pack??
I've just barely gotten my feet wet with my sewing machine, and I would love to make a quit for my husband for Christmas. (Maybe not THIS Christmas!! LOL) Trouble with that is, I'm TERRIBLE at picking out things that match, and seeing it in my head before it's made. We made a quilt in school once, for the local Childrens Hospital, trouble is, we never got to actually see how it was finished, so I have no idea what I'm doing after I get all the blocks put together. :-(
Maybe I could find a tutor... or something... LOL
Beautiful! I just love it. Great fabrics in this one. I'm with you, Bliss would look great, too.
I think I need to buy the pattern! Thanks.
Really love the red and aqua - especially love the binding.
Oh it's gorgeous! Great job!
WOW! I love this, and I have just the right charm packs that would make it wonderful! How are you? I tried to call you a few weeks ago when we were in ID but I don't think you were home from WA yet. I'd love to get together sometime. Is Etsy the best way to buy your patterns? Take care and let's catch up soon!
