Its that time of year again when Amy (thank you Amy!) organizes an online quilt festival.
My entry is my Color Block Quilt. It’s not a new quilt, more like a recently re-discovered quilt from back when I was beginning this whole quilting journey.
I made this only a few months after I started quilting, with some of my prized scraps that I couldn’t part with. I love it because its kind of wonky, its not square at all, and I like to think of all the loads of things I’ve learned since then. Plus its just fun to look at.
This little quilt is a reminder that quilting should be fun, with less worrying about technique, and more about just going for it. My past entries can be found here, here, and here.

I think that's a great quilt;) First quilts seem to be oblivious to rules, which is what I think makes them so cool;) I wish I had taken pictures of my first quilts....I made them without the "required" amount of quilting, and they soon showed my why we do certain things;)
Happy Quilting!!
I like it. It's fun and so happy and colourful. Nice!
I love this pretty "square rainbow" of yours. Makes me smile. Playful and joyful quilts are the best!
; )
I lvoe the colors. It makes me think of those colorful little nesting box toys for babies. Wonderful!
It's a happy little eye-catcher. Cool that your first quilt already was "free-style"!
Just such fabulous colour! And what dynamite fabrics are in it. Yum.
Great Quilt! It's so fun to look at ... I see a little HR, DS, Pez, and AB. But then I love ALL your quilts. =)

I really love how colorful this quilt is! And it's really awesome that the quilt evokes such memories for you, those are the best kind!
I love it. Great colors and fun that it isn't "perfect"! I so agree that we shouldn't worry so much about the rules. That is why I happily live in the land of "good enough".
I love a good rainbow quilt!!

A fun way to learn how to quilt :)
Sweet and cheerful!
You color block is a great quilt especially with the comment about quilting should be fun without worry of technique. I read somewhere else that for goodness sake, they are blankets and who can screw up a "blanket"? We all need to remember that.
Dear Allison,
You inspire to me to continue on my own journey of quilting.
For this, I thank you:)

You're so right, sometimes quilting needs to be more about having fun and the creative process rather than the quest for perfection (especially for new quilters like me)!
I love it! It's so colorful and cheerful, and just the slightest bit off kilter!!

I love first quilts, and this one is so bright and happy! Ah... memories! :)
Hi Allison.
This is a great quilt. Wonderful colours and layout. I think it is fun to look at what we have sewn in the past, not to compare, but to let us know what we have achieved in the time that has passed!
What a wonderful memory!!
This looks fab hanging over the brightly coloured kids toys
Adorable! What a great quilt for a children play area.

It's really pretty. I like all the different colors in it.
Hi, I love the COLORS.. yes it seems that quilting has gotten easier, with new designers, the quilt designs themselves have gotten back to basics, sometimes with a little twist.. I love your quilt, great way to use up scraps...
Oh ! I LOVE It. What a great idea. I might have to do my own version! :)
Thank you for sharing. :)

Fun quilt! I'm a big fan of wonky:)
So bright and cheery! Very fun!
This is a very uncommon type of first quilt, ignoring all the rules and just playing. Love that orange Katie Jump Rope large floral...I have some scraps I am hoarding. Thanks for sharing your quilt's story :)
I love this because it IS happy! I cannot believe you jumped in and made this after a few months of quilting. Then again you are an amazing talent and youre never afraid to just go for it.
You're an inspiration to me every time you post ! You remind me it's only fabric and the whole process is meant to be fun.
When I first loaded your blog I thought oh it's "Wonderfully Wonky" and sure enough as I read your post I saw you used that same word "Wonky". Truly it looks cheerful and happy. It fits in perfectly right where you have it hanging. I'll call it Bright and Beautiful as well.
Lovely quilt! I like what you are writing about worrying about techique. You are so right, just jump into it and have fun. Thank you for sharing!

What a great way to use up all the leftover backing fabric one seems to collect when trimming your quilt for binding. I love the way it sits off centre.
This has inspired me...that i should make a few small quick quilts..for kids deco! Its just gorgeous! I love the simple colors..simple design and great fabrics! xx
