Last week I basted this quilt on my kitchen floor during the day while Ben was home and Ryan sleeping. I rarely quilt when my boys are up and at-um…so Ben took quite an interest in what I was doing.
So I let him help.
He did really good…he didn’t poke himself once. Never mind that I had to re-baste his half after he was gone, it was fun to let him be a part of the process. I need to do it more often. Even if only because it teaches me great patience. :)

when the kids were little, we also had to redecorate the Christmas tree. Love those little hands! :-)
What a cute quilt! Letting him help i's a great idea! Plus it spikes his interest in quilting/sewing too... Even though it DOES take a great deal of patience :).

I love that you let little hands help. It gives the children such great selfconfidence. You are somewhat braver than I though! Not certain I would let them take scissors to a finished quilt top. lol

Nice pictures! Love the quilt. I've recently had help from my nephew while basting a quilt. He loved it.... me too!
that is really sweet, mine are just starting to want to help. I give them the scraps of fabric and they lay them out in patterns.

Beautiful pictures! I let my boy help me, but not with scissors, I would end up with a quilt torn in half!

Often times I have my son choose colors for something (crochet or quilting) and I love his selections. It is fun to see what he will choose. :o)

Nice you have a helper! I remember lots of days when the kids "helped" me make chocolate chip cookies! Love the quilt top!
It's great when they get involved. My son started helping at a real young age, when he could help pick out the material. From there he started aranging blocks on the floor and then picking out the patterns he just knew mom could sew. Now, he's 200 miles away and we swap pictures and text messages to design quilts.

My six-year-old boy decided he wanted to learn how to quilt after watching Mommy. His "quilt" is a 7-foot-long garland of scrap fabric, but he had a ball doing it! ;)
I love have anyone around when I sew/quilt. The neighbor girls were here for two summers learning how to make a quilt and making wise color choices. No they are grown up and don't want to quilt anymore for a while they say.
One of my favorite childhood memories was helping my Nanny when she was quilting. While I may not have a done a great job at basting and trimming edges then, it's now one of my favorite hobbies and reminds me of her everytime I have a needle and thread in hand. :) It's good to let the little ones in on your craft - they'll appreciate it so much when they are grown themselves.
