Last week I basted this quilt on my kitchen floor during the day while Ben was home and Ryan sleeping. I rarely quilt when my boys are up and at-um…so Ben took quite an interest in what I was doing.
So I let him help.
He did really good…he didn’t poke himself once. Never mind that I had to re-baste his half after he was gone, it was fun to let him be a part of the process. I need to do it more often. Even if only because it teaches me great patience. :)

when the kids were little, we also had to redecorate the Christmas tree. Love those little hands! :-)
What a cute quilt! Letting him help i's a great idea! Plus it spikes his interest in quilting/sewing too... Even though it DOES take a great deal of patience :).
Didn't poke and didn't run with scissors!
So sweet to see those little helping hands. As the mother of 2 grown boys, I can relate...they develop patience in us.
My cats, although just as curious, aren't nearly as helpful. ;-) Wonderful photos and a great quilt!
That's a sweet and wonderful afternoon! Well worth the effort of redoing things in order to have "help" like that...
Can't wait to see this one finished.
What a great mom!! It's not how they do it, but that they DID it!! What sweet pictures :-)
I emailed you!
I love that you let little hands help. It gives the children such great selfconfidence. You are somewhat braver than I though! Not certain I would let them take scissors to a finished quilt top. lol
Thanks again for the giveaway! It's the very first time I have been drawn for one.
Hope you had a great weekend!
Nice pictures! Love the quilt. I've recently had help from my nephew while basting a quilt. He loved it.... me too!
that is really sweet, mine are just starting to want to help. I give them the scraps of fabric and they lay them out in patterns.
That's a nice pattern you have used, is it a new one of yours??
Beautiful pictures! I let my boy help me, but not with scissors, I would end up with a quilt torn in half!
Love your photos. So sweet that Ben helped you.

That is wonderful that he was interested in helping. A sweet memory for the both of you.
Congrats to the winners!
You are developing great memories for him. You never know he could be the next "rock star" of the quilting world - up there with Hollis Chatelain, Caryl Fallert, Ricky Tims, Eleanor Burns etc.
Patience is a virtue, virtue is a grace, grace is a little girl who didn't wash her face! And I have NONE either!!
I love those pictures!! What a great little helper!! I bet he loved being able to help you =D
I totally understand about building your patience by letting the kids help! It also helps me with my borderline insane perfectionism. :)
oh my goodness!!! That would be an exercise in patience!! I admire you for that!
What a sweet little helper you have there!! :o)
Often times I have my son choose colors for something (crochet or quilting) and I love his selections. It is fun to see what he will choose. :o)
Have a great week!
Sincerely, Trish
Congratulations to the winners! Great quilt!
Have a super great day.
Nice you have a helper! I remember lots of days when the kids "helped" me make chocolate chip cookies! Love the quilt top!
It's great when they get involved. My son started helping at a real young age, when he could help pick out the material. From there he started aranging blocks on the floor and then picking out the patterns he just knew mom could sew. Now, he's 200 miles away and we swap pictures and text messages to design quilts.
i love this!
This is so sweet. I love the quilt and can't wait to see it finished. Thanks for sharing.
Good for him....and you too! Nice that he wanted to be a part of what gives you such joy! Jenn
Wonderful quilt with the best assistant. Can´t wait to see it finished.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks for sharing.
What a precious memory made, indeed! Love the photos of the little hands at work...I have three little boys of my own!
What a great thing to do...share what you loved with the one you love. I am sure it made his day to be able to help you ;) Can't wait to see the final reveal!
Can he come to my house? I'm still waiting for that moment of the house to myself to bast my quilt class 101 quilt! LOL Yah, it should have been done a couple months ago :(
My six-year-old boy decided he wanted to learn how to quilt after watching Mommy. His "quilt" is a 7-foot-long garland of scrap fabric, but he had a ball doing it! ;)
I love have anyone around when I sew/quilt. The neighbor girls were here for two summers learning how to make a quilt and making wise color choices. No they are grown up and don't want to quilt anymore for a while they say.
One of my favorite childhood memories was helping my Nanny when she was quilting. While I may not have a done a great job at basting and trimming edges then, it's now one of my favorite hobbies and reminds me of her everytime I have a needle and thread in hand. :) It's good to let the little ones in on your craft - they'll appreciate it so much when they are grown themselves.
