Finished Plus Quilt

Love the way this one turned out.  This pattern definitely calls for simple quilting, and straight lines here and there did just the trick.

The back is this fabulous print from the Denyse Schmidt collection at Joann’s.  I bought 2 yards of this the first time I saw it  because I love it so much as a back…or pillows.

I really should have ironed this before pictures.  Oh well.  :)

fabric shopping

Before last week it had been 8 months since I walked into a real brick n’ mortar quilt shop.  8 months!  I’ve been into a couple craft stores with fabric…but no quilt shops.  It’s kind of sad.   I just don’t live within close range of any shops that carry what I use.

I bought almost all 1/2 yards.   Out of the 4 times I’ve been in a quilt shop in the past year….I received  snarky comments at 2 of them about buying small cuts of fabric (from the one doing the cutting).  What gives?  Am I the only person who only buys 1/2 and 1/4 yards?  I seriously doubt it.   I would rather have a big stack of coordinating 1/4 yards than a few 1 yard pieces I get sick of in a week.   

I got these for my twin bizzy kid quilt.  I love that top houndstooth print by Michael Miller.   Now I just need to stop staring at these and get cutting! 

1 hour

1 hour of free time,  1 layer cake, and 1 large drink of choice (plus 2 bathroom breaks)…

…yields 42 cute-as-a-button blocks ready to be sewn into a quilt top. 

The fabric will be available in September…I snagged this layer cake at quilt market.  The pattern is Easy Bake…the same pattern I used with Aneela’s last fabric line (you can see that quilt here).  And yes…it really did only take me an hour + 6 minutes to cut and sew them…it’s a fast stack n’ whack quilt.  Plus I’ve made it before. :)

gone fishing

My husband talked me into getting my fishing license.  So every night this week we’ve been wasting sewing time fishing.  The kind of fishing where I sit for 10 minutes wrapped in a quilt with my Superman fishing pole and my ninny dog…pose for a "fishing" picture…

then sit in the car with curly hair and we eat pretzels. 

So until I catch enough fish to make it worth that darn fishing license….I’ll be fishing…not sewing.  Luckily we like fish…and curly hair up there.  I could eat him up.

The 14th of July quilt

Previously known as the 4th of July quilt….it is now my 14th of July quilt.  Only 10 days late…not too bad right?

I quilted this with super simple straight lines down the seams leaving the stars with no quilting on them.  I had plans to free motion quilt this one…but thought it would be just too much for a quilt this busy on its own.  I might go back and add a square of quilting in the center of each star…but I like it just like it is.

The back and binding are from the Denyse Schmidt collection at Joann’s.  After using this collection in many quilts, I’ve had my fill.  I just need to use up the few pieces I have left of it.

Speaking of quilting…the Sewing Summit is sneaking up on me.  I can’t believe its only 3 months away.  I am teaching the class on free motion quilting and if you can come its going to be fun!  Find out more about the Sewing Summit in Salt Lake City here.

I haven’t told my husband yet that he and the kids aren’t coming with me…just my machine and I are going to this one.  We’ll see how he takes the news.  :)

Quilt + wind

Note to self:  don’t drag your husband + kids out to take quilt pictures on an extra windy day.   It will make everybody cranky and then you’ll have to buy them all donuts to make them happy again.

It’s much easier to take pictures inside.  I loosely picked the colors for this quilt from that Denyse Schmidt polka dot.  After many quilts in these colors I’ve yet to tire of this combo.  Inspired by this lovely quilt.

Bizzy Kid OOPS!

For those of you that bought the Bizzy Kid pattern I was just informed of an “oops”!!!!! Hate it when that happens. Luckily its little and not a huge deal. The large hourglass block in the " Set 2 " instructions on page 7, and the layouts following, show the solid green fabric at the top and bottom of the hourglass like this:

I’ve fixed the pattern….so I’ll be emailing out an updated copy to all of you within the next day plus some. :) I have sent out all of the patterns….so if any of you didn’t get your pattern please email me! Thanks and I’m so so so sorry!!!!!!!!

A new profession

If I had a dime for every water balloon I’ve filled up this week I’d be rich. RICH. Forget lemonade stands….water balloon stands are where its at.

For those of you that asked and are waiting… I finished up the Bizzy Kid pattern. It’s only available in a PDF right now…and fyi…it’s a big file, 12 pages, and includes instructions for the kid size (48" x 60") or a twin size (60" x 80").

Also for those of you that asked, the solids in this are Kona Cottons in Chartreuse, Coral, School bus, and of course White. I have fabric ordered for a twin size version of this quilt for my son’s bed…a not so bright version. :)

A Happy 4th

We’ve had a good start to our 4th of July...

Starting with donuts and a parade long enough to wear everybody out.

We took a nice Sunday afternoon drive up to the mountains…

…and if I can coax everyone into afternoon naps I’ll get the binding on this with a few hours to spare before we head out to eat eat eat and watch fireworks….and eat some more.
