Un-used

IMG_0649

I pulled out my pink fabrics this weekend with the hope of finding motivation to make my baby girl a quilt…and you know what?  I just don’t want to.  Luckily baby girl won’t care…and I can wait until I’m ready to make something I’ll she’ll love.  So I’m back to crafts with Ben instead of sewing…

Oh my goodness, you just wait until the right moment to jump in and start on the quilt. I would offer to make one for you but as you are a fabulous quilter I think I will just leave it to you. I can't wait to see it though - please let us know when it's done! Have a wonderful day and enjoy your crafting with Ben.

Sometimes it's just not meant to be I think. I spent ages cutting fabric on Saturday and then didn't get to play with it again, and now it's sitting there, irritating me!

My kids got perler beads for Christmas and I find every time I am ironing quilt seams I am being poked by a little finger asking me to iron their little creation :) They are such a fun little craft to do and shockingly enough, they can do it all together and not fight. Double score!!

I can't believe it!

Maybe the right inspiration hasn't hit you yet! Much better to wait and make something you love than to start cutting and get halfway through and change your mind! :)

When I was going to have my daughter, I craved purple. Instead of a food craving, I had a color craving. Maybe pink isn't doing it for you. I still feel silly that I had a color craving. Don't worry, you'll wake up in the middle of the night and have an ah-ha moment!

LOL! I love it. I just finished a pink quilt top for a baby girl last night. Hop on over to my blog if you're interested. In other news, I also bought some perler beads at Jo-Ann's last week to use myself. I guess those kinds of crafts appear to kids of all ages ;-)

I just saw a new line that I really like called Go Fly a Kite by October Skies- super cute.
I know what you mean about finding the right time. I am having my 5th baby (4th boy) and have bought some pretty cute fabric but having some trouble finding the right design for them.

You can't force inspiration. When it all comes together it will be fantastic - until then, have fun with other stuff!

First off...is it weird that I always enjoy seeing other people have the same fabric as I do?! lol

Secondly...whatever you make it will be lovely and perfect because the time is right. And I think it's a great idea to enjoy the time with Ben before life gets any busier than it already is.

Ha! I have three stacks of fabric for three different quilts that are just... stacks. I've hit a creative quilt slump! I'm glad I'm not the only one :)

So many pretty fabrics and no inspiration huh...Oh well..it happens. I'm sure you will find the motivation to make one.

I totally agree with you...until you feel it, don't do it...then it feels like a chore....I'm in the same boat!!

Oh my, that makes me feel so much better about myself! I completely hear where you are coming from and when inspiration strikes - you will make that baby a perfect quilt that you both will love.

When you see that PERFECT quilt - you'll rush to your stash and "voila" that pink quilt will "appear"! Whatever you do - enjoy these days with your family!!

My girls loved those "fuser" beads (that's what they called them). We had so many shapes.

You'll get to the quilt when it is the right time :)

im so glad im not the only one!

Since i got pregnant in august I have lost my quilting mojo.

I love the fabric and thinking about quilts and what I want to make. BUT the sitting down and planning and the actual making of quilts is beyond me at the moment. It really sucks!

hopefully my inspiration hits soon too! (due end of april and have a toddler bed quilt for summer to make plus a baby quilt for this little girl)

There are times when the mood to quilt just isn't there (gasp!), but it will come back and it's all good. Enjoy the time with your son, making memories.

How cute!! I'm sure when inspiration strikes you'll be quilting in no time!! Until then enjoy playing :)

Those look like great fabrics. Better to wait and make something you're proud of instead of just making something and then not liking it in the end. Plus, I'm sure Ben enjoys spending time with you :)

Maybe it's the pink? Little girls love other colours too!

Cheryl Arkison said...

Who says you have to go with pink? Maybe yellow and grey with a hit of pink? Orange, red, purple, with pink? Green and grey with some pink?

OMG(osh)!!! I couldn't help but laugh... I just finished a Princess and the Pea quilt for my 18 month old. I finished it, gave it to her, she played peek-a-boo for a minute and then went about her day. Then, at bedtime, I laid her down and tucked her in with it... she stood up and threw it out of her bed.
The next day? Same thing.
The next day? Same thing.
The next day? She didn't throw it out of her bed... because I didn't give it to her. It's sitting nicely on the shelf in the closet, folded and waiting.

...just waiting.

I love the top gray fabrics in this picture. Beautiful.

and I have finished one of the quilt tops for my twins beds. The other one is still waiting to be bound. As it has been for at least 6 months. Oops.

How clever!

Baby girls don't need pink. There's all kinds of other colors out there that are girlie enough. Just wait, it will come.

I made a pink quilt once, and it ended up being called Pink Headache. It was just too much pink. I added a large green border to save it, and that helped balance the headache.

Debbie said...

Wow! I've got girls and grand daughters and I don't have that much pink lol
guess it was another lucky Deb that won. Congrats

Must be this time of year Alison, I have had no quilting motivation either!

I know the feeling. I spend so much time working on items for my shop that I never make anything for my kids. I actually DID make a small scrap blanket for my new baby this time. Wonders never cease! :)

My son has a ton of these beads but lost the spray that came w/it. What can we use to glue them together? & do I just use wax paper and iron on top? btw: I love all the fabrics! So cute!
