Bits

IMG_6218-002

Not a lot of sewing going on here lately.  I made the pillow up there for a class I’m teaching at the Sew Expo…but other than that I’ve filled most my time doing "really" fun things like switching insurances…getting kids’ shots up to date, getting the leaking fridge fixed…fun stuff like that.  bleh.

I did manage to start sanding this beauty…

My parents bought it at Goodwill for me this summer, and despite the outside appearance it’s in fabulous shape.  It has little scratches everywhere on the outside…so it was due for a good sanding job (by good, I mean…by my husband).

I had to share this adorable quilt Katherine emailed me that she made for her daughter…it is just too cute not to share.  She used the Bizzy Kid pattern and Out to Sea fabric by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller (mostly).  I love how she used the full boats in the fabric as blocks & I love the colors.  Now back to all that "fun" stuff I go!

I love the sprocket pillow and your friends quilt! Thank you for sharing pictures.
Please post a picture of the chest of drawers after it has been sanded and a picture after it has been finished. It is fascinating to see before and after pictures of thrift store treasures.

Can't wait to see how you re-do that beautiful piece of furniture. You have such an eye for color!

What a cute little pillow. And that quilt is great. The fabrics are perfect with your pattern!

What a cool dresser! What will you do with it after you sand it? It would be gorgeous painted in aqua high gloss/lacquer, and you could replace the hardware with some of the pretty Anthropologie vintage reproduction drawer pulls:

And no, I don't work for Anthropologie -- I just thought of their pretty furniture jewelry as soon as I saw your Goodwill score. Why do I never find these wonderful treasures?!! Lucky you! :-)

The chest of drawers is fabulous. I can't wait to see how they will look re-done. I just got a beautiful hardwood table from a garage sale that I need to sand down and re-do - which probably means my husband will be doing some sanding as well.

I love that chest. Its details look very similar to the two dressers I have that were my mom's when she was young. Mine are a little beat up but I haven't been able to imagine doing anything to them.

LOVE that dresser - can't wait to see what color(s) you paint it - you should go into the "painting old stuff" business! Love sprockets!!!

I am so jealous! That dresser is amazing and I'd love to be able to restore...but just not in my list of talents. But good luck, I am sure you will make it look great!

Forgot to say that your Sprocket pillow is one of my faves and have made it for gifts. Need to make myself one....or two.

Love the shape of the dresser; it is going to look great redone. The Sprocket pillow looks great in the FMF prints.

Funnily enough I was sitting here looking at the piece of furniture and thinking exactly what Rebecca said. How about Lacquer paint - it would look absolutely fabulous and I think you can get it in a spray can. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

I agree with everyone else who says they can't wait to see what color you paint that fabulous dresser! And the quilt is really cute. That must be one of the most gratifying things--to see your patterns made by other people.
