Looking Back

2012 was a full, wonderful year and I’m a little sad it went by so fast.  I had my Sophie, made lots of quilts, wrote a book (I’ll show you soon!), visited 2 quilt markets, painted like a mad woman,  moved to Seattle, and in between all of the "big" things we enjoyed all the little things that matter the most.   I have a feeling that 2013 will be just as full…but I sure love it that way.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!!!  We sure did…now the digging through and organizing starts. 

I finished this a year ago (can you tell by the wrinkles?) for Martingale…and now I can finally share it!The quilt was made for this book:  Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe (Patchwork Place).

It was the first time I’d contributed a quilt pattern to a book…and although it is  long process, it is always fun to be in a book!    It’s a great book…all 19 of the quilt projects are beautiful and the book styling is lovely.

I was asked to make this quilt last December on a tight schedule and no time…so I was thankful my friend and neighbor Amber pieced it for me within a couple of days (hi Amber!).   Then I quilt and bound it and sent it off. 

The back is this great Erin McMorris print:

My favorite part is this green binding…I will never tire of striped bindings.

Fabric love

I haven’t bought fabric since August 16th…and for someone that sews a lot and doesn’t keep a large fabric stash…that’s a long time (okay not that long!).

I haven’t paid much attention to new fabric or what lines have come out…but I’ve been waiting for this that I saw at Market: 

I bought that stack up there at the top from here…it is so cute.  I bought a big stack but I have plans for fox ties, and quilts galore.  After Christmas of course.  :)

In my spare time (as if!) I’ve been choosing fabric and making bundles for this small fabric shop.  Turns out I could pick out fabrics all day.  I like it almost as much as making cute quilts for cute babies…

…almost.   I’ll never get enough of hourglass quilts (tutorial here).

She’s standing and chewing on the crib rail when I’m not looking.  There are little teeth marks from each of my babies on the rail…and it makes me all sappy and tears well up in my eyes when I look at them.  Cute as they are…I need to buy a rail protector so she’s not eating crib bits!

Patchwork Christmas

Making a patchwork pillow cover has been on my December to-do list…and I’m glad (and amazed) I got it done with 2 weeks to enjoy it! 

I was feeling mighty ba-humbug a few mornings ago…for no reason…just feeling bleh. So I got my grouchy self ready, cleaned my house, and sat down at my sewing machine.  After a few minutes I felt a hundred times better.   A clean house + a little sewing time makes all the difference.

The pillow cover is made with 2 1/2" squares…100 squares (10 x 10) makes a perfect 20" pillow cover.  I strip pieced the squares (sew 2 1/2" strips together…then cut the strip sets into 2 1/2” strips) so despite its appearance its actually a really fast project. 

With the scraps we decorated dollar store ornaments using Modge Podge (I saw the tutorial here). 

It was a huge mess…

…but they loved it and it’s sure fun to have boys that love to craft with me!

Joyfully

I’m only errr…8 months late posting this?  Maybe 9?  Bad blogger.  I made this pattern for Moda to accompany Kate Spain’s Joy line of Fabric for Moda.  It sat in a tub waiting for Christmas to come and I finally got it out last week.

This was quilted by Lindsay.  The fabrics are adorable.  The pattern has been in my shop for months and months.  :)

We’re in full blown Christmas mode over here.  Sophie loves it all.

I can’t get enough of her…she is just so much fun.  Plus she’s finally sleeping through the night, so  I don’t feel like Zombie-Mom 99% of the time!

Bits

Not a lot of sewing going on here lately.  I made the pillow up there for a class I’m teaching at the Sew Expo…but other than that I’ve filled most my time doing "really" fun things like switching insurances…getting kids’ shots up to date, getting the leaking fridge fixed…fun stuff like that.  bleh. 

I did manage to start sanding this beauty…

My parents bought it at Goodwill for me this summer, and despite the outside appearance it’s in fabulous shape.  It has little scratches everywhere on the outside…so it was due for a good sanding job (by good, I mean…by my husband).

I had to share this adorable quilt Katherine emailed me that she made for her daughter…it is just too cute not to share.  She used the Bizzy Kid pattern and Out to Sea fabric by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller (mostly).  I love how she used the full boats in the fabric as blocks & I love the colors.  Now back to all that "fun" stuff I go!
