Techy Stuff

I’m surprisingly bad at all this "techy" stuff…I still use my ugly flip phone, and if you text me I’ll probably call you back.  Now that Google Reader is going away, I thought I better let you know other places you can find me and stay updated if your so inclined…

You can find me on Facebook here:

On Pinterest here:

And bloglovin’ is new to me…but you can also find me there:

Follow on Bloglovin

Up at the top right you can see these quick and easy links to Facebook, RSS feed, Bloglovin’, Pinterest, Email, and Home:

Phew…that’s way too much tech talk for one day.  Now back to my un-techy life complete with my VCR, Cassette tapes, floppy discs, and flip phone.   ;)    To answer concerned emails….the blog will still be here and I’ll still be blogging away…nothing changes with that!

That's funny you mention the VCR. My grandson saw our extensive collection of Disney VHS tapes and wanted to watch Peter Pan. I told him we would have to watch it in my office where I still have a combo TV/VCR. So he opens up the case, sees the VHS tape, looks completely confused and says, "But Grandma, there's no DVD in here." Um, yeah...

Not sure how many other people are aware of this, but this is how I follow ALL of the blogs I enjoy reading (including yours)...

Needed: Firefox and MS Outlook (PC) or an RSS reader app (Mac)

Directions:
1. Go to blog you like in Firefox browser.
2. Go to BOOKMARKS menu.
3. Select SUBSCRIBE TO THIS PAGE (you will likely see the standard orange RSS logo too)
4. Choose the RSS feed in the pop-out list.
5. Follow the prompts to designate MS Outlook as your reader.
6. This will launch Outlook and you will find the folder for RSS feeds in the sidebar a little below your INBOX folders.
7. From this point on all of your subscribed blog posts will show up here as they are published. You can print, delete, forward, etc. just like it was a regular email.

I have found this the easiest way to subscribe to blogs on a PC. On my Mac I follow this same procedure except I designate NewsBar (my RSS reader of choice) as the place to send the posts instead of Outlook. I think NewsBar cost me all of $4 from the Mac app store.

*NOTE: I have Windows XP, the latest Firefox, and MS Office 2007 on PC. My Mac is new so everything is the latest version on that.

Hi! I have changed also to Bloglovin and follow you there. I just guess that my phone might be the same as your 'ugly' but so practical (to keep in pocket) phone. I just got a small tablet and now I should learn to use it! Till now tablet was for me a medicin pill. But I do want to follow my time. Thank you for your always inspiring posts! x Teje

Oh, I can totally relate with the VCR and flip phone--and I'm in my early 30s. Oh well, we'd rather we quilting, right?

I love it! I still have a flip phone, I have a job in a high tech area and quite frankly I just want a simple life when not at work. Prefer cassette (Beta) to DVD anyday!

I think I'll check out Bloglovin and follow you there. Started Seville last week and I'm loving it in Urban Cowgirl. And... as I've said before love the booklet format you use for your patterns, so nice!!! Don't change ..lol

Casette tapes? What are those? ;-) I still remember my pink and purple Barbie RECORD player that played big vinyl disks that were prone to being stepped on and getting cracked!

Melissa Oyler wrote something I hope I did understand right. The rss stays, doesn't it? I have a feedreader (called feedreader) and follow you there.

Thanks for all the cool ideas you always share!

Just followed you on Pinterest and liked you on Facebook. Just a suggestion, it would help keep people on your site it the links to the other social media opened in another (new) tab. That way if people just click the x to close they are not closing your site. It really helps a lot.

I am taking a class taught by Kristyne in Calgary next week. Should be fun!

I use http://www.feedly.com,
They say they mesh with Google reader and will support everything when reader is gone.

All this techie stuff is way over my head. I had to part with my flip top...pull out antenna phone as DH surprised me with a 'smart' phone for Christmas. Yes, it is smarter than me. I haven't text on it yet...it has the camera and while at the AQS Show in Lancaster I thought I could use it....my sister was with me...it was the blind leading the blind. She got a smart phone for Christmas too. She had not used the camera feature either. We could have won on the 'Funniest Home Video' show. I just posted my first post on Facebook and I've had an account for over a year. Pinterest is next...wish me luck.

I don't like "techie" stuff either! I switched to Bloglovin' and really like it.It is just the blogs you follow and nothing more! Just what I want! I reccommend them! Darlene

As soon as I signed up for the bloglovin, I started getting all kinds of spam and junk. What did I do wrong?

Allison said...

Oh bummer Chris! I'm not sure why you'd get spam...but I didn't love Bloglovin that much anyways...I'm going to try feebly (spelling?) too and see if I like it better.

I use feed reader ... You might want to check your login ... Mine is gmail meaning it uses Google reader

Bloglovin would not migrate all of the blogs I follow on Google Reader...so I went with Feedly. It moved all of my 100+ blogs I follow over in a flash...and give me new blogs to check out with similar content. That's how I found YOU!
Hugs,
Kathy
