Poppy’s Room

Poppy's baby room

This week I made a quilt for a friend who is adopting a little girl from China next month.

She bought this Ikea fabric…but wanted it turned into a whole cloth quilt for her bed.  She won’t be sleeping in the crib…it’s just for holding things right now since it’s obviously vintage!

Ikea Quilt

It’s home d├ęcor weight…so I suggested we put minky on the back and cotton batting in the middle so it would be warm and soft.  Aaaand then I put my foot in my mouth because it was a BEAST to quilt.  Should’ve known!

Luckily with some trial and error it turned out perfect (and heavy!).

The circles on the wall are bulls-eye quilt blocks she appliqued onto paper and framed.

Poppy's Room

We are so excited to meet Poppy…especially since she is exactly Sophie’s age!!

I find that hen I use Minky that I don't need batting. Between fabric type and eight it is warm.

GASP! I love it! What a fabulous room!

I don't like using mink, but when the grands are begging for it, I cave. I find that if I don't use batting, the fluff from the mink pulls to the front in quilting. It makes a heavy blanket, and is a bear to work with.

Beautiful!

It's beautiful, I love it! What a good friend you are.
I had a friend that found her perfect nursery fabric on a dust ruffle at TJ Maxx! Worked out great :)

That looks gorgeous. Such a lovely print and the coours for the room are so sunshiney and welcoming.
I agree withtan earlier comment, when I use minki, I don't worry about wadding - minky is so think already. And trying to quilt through minki, wadding and home dec farbic... You're a braver woman than I am! But it looks fabulous, so obviously worth it :-)

So cute Allison!! I love that you are able to help your friend with this. It is super cute and it has the perfect touch to it with your quilting and binding. What a lucky little girl and what a lucky mom to have such a sweet friend in you :)

Gorgeous! Must've been really difficult to quilt!

I love the quilt... turned out beautiful. I'm always so surprised to see wall hangings over a crib. I would be wayyyyy too nervous that one would fall on my little guy.... so we just did a decal. Maybe I'm too cautious? Naw.... that looks amazing but I wouldn't chance it.

such a bright and cheerful quilt which I know Poppy will love, the wall hanging looks good too. Must check out the fabrics in Ikea, maybe later this week if it stops raining as it is 2 bus rides away.

Kellie the crib is just for looks...no baby will be sleeping in it! So no worries about pictures falling on baby! :)

What a sophisticated little girls room. The colors are dreamy, and the fabrics are so much fun.

Wow. I can imagine the difficulty quilting, but those fabrics - the quilt, the frames - amazing! Absolutely love the color scheme!

What a beautiful room, and your quilt turned out wonderfully. I never use batting with minky but if i feel I need an little extra I find a layer of flannel or brushed cotton works great instead (well pre-washed to take care of shrinkage issues). The flannel also seems to help the minky stop stretching and shifting as I sew.

Such pretty framed pieces...as is your quilt. One of my questions was answered....I was a little worried about the chipping paint on the crib...no worry now!

Yep Sandy the crib won't really be there...it will be back with it's owner and used for decor! ;)

I just did that for my son's quilt ... He loves the fluffy batting and the minky. It was a bea to quilt on my Brother with a 6" space under the arm..... I have lived the pain. But he is totally is love with his "cozy" so it was worth it. Hope your result is the same...

As someone that has walked that road, my son was adopted from Vietnam and my daughter was adopted from China, I know all too well how she is feeling and what she is going through. I'm sure the awesome goodies you created made her feel that much more love and excitement for the pending arrival. Safe travels to her. The trip is like none other that she'll ever experience in her life.
