Dresden

IMG_8733

I decided it was time I took a shot at the Dresden Plate. I used the handy dandy little template in the next pic. It was easy just like the template said, but definitely not quick and easy. And I even cheated and machine appliqu├ęd it instead of hand stitching. The only thing I didn’t like about this template is it doesn’t tell you how many pieces you will need to make one block. I started with 4” strips, so it took some guesswork to finally figure out I needed 20 pieces. (someone kindly pointed out its actually 20 pieces, not 22 like I previously wrote)

I won’t be making a full dresden plate quilt anytime soon, but I do love the look of it. Even if it is machine stitched.

ps. My sweet mother in law is here for a visit. We're going to visit Amish country tomorrow, and my favorite hidden quilt shop. I will take some pictures to share, its beautiful down there. Be back next week, have a great weekend!

Very cute Dresden pillow. Thanks for telling me the number is 22! I just bought the same one and now I don't have to play the guessing game.

You did a great job! I made one Dresden Plate block when I took my first quilting class 25 years ago. That was the one and only block I ever made :-(

It looks great! I love the look with fabrics you chose. I don't know if I would find patience for the whole quilt, but having a pillow for accent like yours would be nice.

What a cool pillow! It looks especially great with those fabric combinations. I have always wanted to try making a dresden block, but it sounds a little time-consuming. Not sure yet.

Looks pretty! And I'm thinking .... it would match perfectly the quilt I just finished! By the way, just so you know again, that I'm having a girl due in September. Don't want you to forget, just in case you make something pretty and girly and don't know what to do with it!! Love and miss you tons. Hope there's a lot of sunshine where you live!

I am new to your blog...can't even remember how I found you, but I love it! Your pillow is GREAT! Kind of makes me want to try my hand at quilting...maybe one day. :-) Anyway, nice to "meet" you.

Hi Allison, first I would like to say that i LOVE the cushion you made with the Dresden Plate on it! I love the colours that you used. I received my dresden ruler yesterday in the mail and I started working with it instantly. But I only needed 20 pieces, and when I count your plate, I count 20 pieces as well... Am I missing something?
Kind regards from the Netherlands, Gert

Very cute Dresden pillow! I bought that template last week. I think it looks great machine appliqued.

very cute! I have that same template so it's nice to know (when I do make one) how many pieces I need for each plate!

Weird coincidence...I was looking at your new Christmas pillow which is beautiful! And then I clicked on this one and saw the design...Dresden...I am familiar with Dresden designs such as quilts, plates and dolls I was just surprised to see my name on there! Beautiful work!
