Swaddler

IMG_1723

I’ve been meaning to try out the straight jacket  swaddler pattern from this book after I checked it out at my local library.  This was an easy pattern, probably not for a beginning sewer but pretty easy overall.  The inside is soft fleece I bought in the black Friday craziness at Joann’s, and the outside is of course a full moon dot by Amy Butler.

This little swaddler looks just like the apparatus Native Americans attached to a board and carried their little ones in on their backs! I'd never seen this pattern before. Clever!

That is fabulous!! All my babies loved being swaddled. Wish I had known about that pattern. Love it. Great fabric choice too :)

Hey, I just did a post about swaddling blankets on my blog! My version is much more low-tech, but so darn effective. There's a goofy video my husband made on how to use it - you should check it out just for a chuckle. :-)

There is absolutely nothing better than a good swaddling blanket. I just sent out 3 as gifts. Just the boring old store bought variety. Yours is lovely!

Lovely! All three of my girls loved being swaddled, and I swear it was the key to a good nights sleep for mama and baby alike :) Thnaks for the pattern notes too.

That looks nice. Would have been good to have when mine was tiny, but would still make a good shower gift. Thanks!

What a great idea! My kids all had to be swaddled or they would punch themselves in the face. I'll keep this in mind for next time!

what a good idea! I would loved to have had one of those when my kids were little. I would like to get a pattern tho, for my grand babies when they are born.

Not that you shouldn't run out & purchase this wonderful book as there are many other great patterns in it, but this pattern is featured for free download over at Craft: http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2009/05/craft_pattern_podcast_snuggler.html

Nice color combo! I never knew what a swaddler was until I became a momma last year. Gotta love the swaddler!

I just made one of these swaddlers--it looks a bit awkward to me. I was wondering if you had tried it on an actual baby. If you have how did the velcro work. It doesn't appear to be in a proper position to swaddle the baby tightly. Could you email me back if you have tried it on a baby. theriverdaughter at gmail dot com. Thanks
